How Do We Make the Most of Our Post-Exam Vacation? A Guide to Refreshing and Rewarding Vacations

Apr 12, 2023

Exams are just over, and you have finally got time to relax and do what you like. We believe your time off can be a valuable opportunity to learn, grow, and explore new interests. In this blog, we will share some effective ways to spend your vacation that will not only help you stay productive but also enhance your personal and academic development. Whether you want to read more, learn a new skill, volunteer, or exercise, we have you covered. Let's dive in!

Read a book

Do you remember the book always lying on your bookshelf or the book you have wanted to read for ages? Yes, this is your time. Go grab that book stay cozy, and start turning the pages. Books are a world in themselves, so explore the new world from the comfort of your room. This is your chance to delve into the world of books without having to worry about your exams.

Moreover, reading is a great way to enhance your imagination and reduce stress. Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing muscle tension. A 2009 study at the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68% (Why Reading Is Good for Mental Health, NAMI California). Use this vacation to relax, be stress-free, and grab a book that will help you become the best version of yourself.

Learn a new language

Learning new things is always a great experience. In addition to that, learning a new way to communicate is the cherry on the cake. Learning a new language is not only beneficial while communicating with people, but, as studies have proven, learning a new language also helps people stay creative and empathetic and makes people think critically. A person who speaks more than one language has a greater advantage in memory over one who only speaks one language. Learning a new language will not only enhance our thinking but also our personality and the way we present ourselves in front of different people. According to a Cambridge study, language learning is an effective brain workout and protects learners against dementia and other degenerative neurological conditions. (Rice & Galbraith, 2008). So, try learning a new language this vacation and see what magic it does next time you go to school.

Volunteer

What better way to spend your vacation than being a reason for somebody's happiness? That is exactly what volunteering does, it will help you bring smiles to people's faces, and you can, in turn, learn a lot from those experiences. Whether an old age home or a local community service, your voluntary service will help them in one way or another. In addition to that, volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. You are doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. (Benefits of Community Service – Community Engagement, WCSC). This vacation, try bringing a smile to someone else's face and see how accomplished you would feel after that.

Learn new skills

Now you have a lot of time to spend on yourself without having to worry about anything, then why not spend that time improving yourself? Challenge yourself, grab that guitar, and start taking music lessons. Wanting to learn dancing? Play the music and start grooving, dreaming of writing a fabulous essay. Hold that pen and paper and start practicing. Learning a new skill will keep you motivated and raise your hunger for learning.

Moreover, it will also help you to stay connected with learning so that once you join your higher studies, you don't have to struggle with it. As you develop a new skill, you'll gain courage and confidence, which will help you override fear and anxiety. You'll feel more empowered. (Source). So, use every second of your vacation and do the things you have always wanted to do.

Exercise

All the busy days are over now. You can finally focus on your physical well-being if you haven't already. It is high time you start exercising and utilizing this vacation. We all understand how important our physical health is to us. As it is said, "health is wealth"- it is undeniably necessary for us to keep ourselves up to date with our health so that we can be productive even during vacations. Exercise can be of any form, from yoga to Zumba, dance, aerobics, or workouts. If it keeps you healthy and fit, go for it. Regular physical activity can help children and adolescents improve cardiorespiratory fitness, build strong bones and muscles, control weight, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions (Physical Activity Facts | Healthy Schools | CDC). Now, you can take time off from studying, focus on your physical health, and commence with your physical exercises.

In conclusion, vacations are a great opportunity to learn, grow, and develop new skills. Whether you choose to read a book, learn a new skill, volunteer, learn a new language, or exercise, make sure to make the most of your time off. Also, do not forget to use your school app and note how you spent your vacation so that you can look back and cherish what you have achieved even during your vacations. Remember, the vacation may be a break from school, but it doesn't have to be a break from learning.

Happy learning!
